Three Sisters, an enhanced CD of all new material, will be released on Howler Records and contains a winning video from a fan contest held on the band’s website (www.alicedonut.com). The album is the first in a trilogy of new releases the band plans to release over the course of the next three years. Their previous seven full-length albums each sold approximately 15,000 units. ALICE DONUT plan to tour major markets in the US this year, starting with two shows in Austin, TX next month. Performing both concerts at Room 710, the March 16th show is open to all fans while the March 18th event is part of the SXSW festival. Details on additional tour dates and a CD release party will be announced soon. Manhattan-based Howler Records is headed by Dave Giffen, himself once a member of ALICE DONUT, and Tommy Hill. The label is distributed nationally by ADA.
Despite their time away from the spotlight, ALICE DONUT has retained its strong, loyal and fanatical international following, developed through years of touring worldwide. The band has appeared at some of the top music festivals, sharing the stage with the likes of Smashing Pumpkins, Lemonheads, New Order, Breeders, Primus, Jesus Lizard, and Dinosaur Jr. They have toured with the Meat Puppets, Blind Melon, Fugazi, and NoMeansNo.
ALICE DONUT has been a preeminent underground band since the 1990s known for its relentless touring, complex and disturbing lyrics, innovative music, and hyperkinetic performances. The Philadelphia City Paper declared: “Alice Donut is simply one of the best bands in these here United States.” Spin Magazine wrote: “Brainy, subversive pop-core from New York.” And England’s prestigious Melody Maker gushed: “…some of the most beautifully dirty pop music you’ll hear anywhere.”
