Back to Back Exhibits are Scheduled for Noted Contemporary Artist Jennifer J.L. Jones

Hunter Kirkland Contemporary, Santa Fe, will host the opening exhibit of renowned painter and mixed media artist, Jennifer J. L. Jones on Friday, May 25, 2007 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. The artist will be on hand to present her new series "Soliloquies", which explores the emotional language of color. This is the artist's second one-person show at Hunter Kirkland. The show continues through June 11. For more information call (505) 984-2111.

In the Soliloquies Series, Jennifer has chosen colors from nature's palette ranging from vibrant reds of the southwestern skies, to the blushing pink of a cherry blossom, the silky green of new growth, the deep blue of a midnight sky and all colors in between. She continues to use imagery, textures and colors in her work to evoke and convey the emotional connections we feel to the natural world.

"The colors I choose for glazing over and over one another create mood, atmosphere and a vibration of energy unique to each viewer," explains Jones. "Working with paint and the various mediums and materials helps to build up and break down ideas, thoughts and patterns. The materials I enjoy working with include oil, acrylic, textured papers, asphalt, glue, charcoal, wax, wood stain and metal." (image: "Rapture" 48 x 48)

Following the Hunter Kirkland Contemporary opening, Jennifer will participate in a group exhibit at the season opening of the Belushi Pisano Gallery in Martha's Vineyard. The opening reception is June 1, 5-8 p.m.; the exhibit will run through June 15.

According to Donald Dusinberre, art critic for EU Jacksonville, reviewing a Jones exhibit in Jacksonville: "Upon examination, Jones' paintings imposed upon me a strange effect. Those countless intermingling layers and floating petals caused me to lose the thoughts I intended to think, and drew me into vague impressions from which I could not escape. Jones herself alludes to this effect in her bio: "The colors I choose to glaze over one another create mood, atmosphere, and a vibration of energy unique to each viewer interacting with the final piece. "Jones' paintings are successful because they can bring about just such an interaction."

Jennifer's work can be viewed on her website.
