Egypt Returns To New York City Radio And Joins The Power 105.1/WWPR-FM Talent Lineup

Popular radio personality, Egypt, dropped a bombshell today by announcing that she is the newest member of the Power 105.1 on-air staff.

December 19, 2003, Egypt left 107.5/WBLS-FM after 2 years as the station’s midday host, because she wanted to pursue television hosting and theater acting opportunities she’d been presented. During her on-air farewell to her listeners, she also mentioned that she looked forward to returning to NY radio when the time was right.

“We are honored to have a talent like Egypt on Power 105-1! She has the New York experience and is one of the most sought after radio and TV talents in the country,” said Michael Saunders, Power 105.1’s Program Director.

“For the past couple of months, I’ve been busy working on a national theater play and traveling back and forth to LA to work on my TV projects, but I’ve really missed being on the radio. I am very excited to be on Michael Saunders’ team at Power 105-1! He has a great programming philosophy, and I respect how Power 105-1 has brought a young, different, creative vibe to New York City radio,” remarked Egypt.

No details are available at this time regarding how frequent Egypt will be heard on the radio station. However, Saunders confirmed that Egypt will play an important role on his team and will begin her on-air duties, Sunday, March 7, 8p-10pm. In addition to her new radio duties, Egypt will continue to be involved in the various TV projects.

In August of 2003, Egypt was been named the 2nd highest ranked honoree on R&R Magazine’s “Power Players On The Rise” air talent Top 10 list. In addition to the honor from R&R Magazine, Egypt also received the 2003 Executive to Watch Award from NABFEME (National Association of Black Female Executives in Music & Entertainment).

Egypt, a Philadelphia native, whose other passion, is acting, being considered for roles in upcoming independent and feature films. Egypt is a former member of the City Kids Repertoire Company, in New York City, where Lauryn Hill, Tisha Campbell, Malik Yoba and Lisa Nicole Carson also began. With a strong foundation in acting, Egypt also studied at the historical Freedom Theater and The Tisch School of Arts at New York University.

Previously, Egypt held the spot as the popular midday host for 107.5 WBLS-FM in New York, from 2001-2003 . She resigned from the station in order to pursue working with the play, “SWEET SPOT”, as well as a nationally syndicated television project she’s involved in.

Prior to her success with WBLS-FM made a name for herself as one of the highest rated radio personalities at Baltimore’s #1 station, WERQ-FM. Prior to Baltimore, Egypt simultaneously held an on-air and Music Director position at WPHI-FM in Philadelphia.

By continuing to host “BK’s The Heat”, a daily entertainment feature sponsored by Burger King on BET, as well as making weekly public appearances nationwide, it’s easy to see why Egypt is becoming a sought after name in the entertainment industry.

Egypt recently starred in a very popular safe sex commercial, directed by well-known HBO director, Maurice Marable, produced by Wonderland Productions and sponsored by the Kaiser Family Foundation in conjunction with Rap-It-Up, the commercial airs nationally on BET and is slated to air on various other networks.

Egypt garnered even more national attention as the Co-Host of UPN’s “The Source Sound Lab” next to the Co-star of Moesha, Ray J. Additionally, Egypt starred in her own TV and radio commercial the national Chrysler PT Cruiser multi-media campaign that also featured gospel great Fred Hammond and R&B group NEXT. She began her national television hosting career as one of BET’s favorite guest-hosts for shows like Planet Groove, Rap City and BET Live.

Egypt studied at NYU before graduating from Temple University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Mass Media. Egypt continues to be represented by Amber Noble, Talent Manager/President of I For Talent, LLC.
