Master Works of Art Come to Life This Easter Season

Living recreations of famous pieces of art are used to tell the story of the life of Christ at Easter.

Through the centuries, artists have attempted to capture the significance of the life of Christ. Bethany First Nazarene Church borrows from famous artists, sculptors and composers to tell the timeless story of Jesus Christ. This 90 minute program called Master Works is presented as a gift to the community in four performances: Saturday, April 3, Sunday, April 4; Saturday, April 10; and Easter Sunday April 11; all performances at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

“We are actually reproducing life size replicas of paintings and sculptures using live actors,” said Harlan Moore, Bethany First’s Minister of Music and director of the Easter program. Local artists worked more than six months creating sets and costumes. Michelangelo’s Pieta and DaVinci’s The Last Supper are among the great works of art being re-created.

“Easter is an important event for all Christians,” said Moore. “I believe this program will appeal to all ages because of its artistic and musical diversity. I don’t think anything like it has ever been seen in Oklahoma.” Bethany First's 100-voice Cathedral Choir, a 35-piece orchestra, soloists and actors join together using contemporary and traditional music, drama and video to present this powerful story.

Tickets for Master Works are free and available at www.bethanynaz.org, or by calling the Bethany First office at 495-0105, extension 507. Bethany First Nazarene is located on NW 39th Expressway between MacArthur and Rockwell, next to Southern Nazarene University.
