"The family humor of British Pantomime is ripe for introducing to US audiences this Christmas, as an alternative for violence, terror, and suggestive television." were the words of Alan Simpson, theatre and television producer to Journalists in Washington, DC. on the forty year anniversary of the Beatles first "British Invasion".
"Traditional British Pantomime is growing in popularity around the world, but has not been fully developed for American audiences. It offers a fantasy journey for young minds, as well as adults, to a land of Cinderella, Snow White, Jack and the Beanstalk and Aladdin, which were pantomimes a couple of hundred years before they were found by Walt Disney."
Alan Simpson is developing Pantomime for the USA, with the help of a team of British and US scripwriters, actors and theater technicians. Their goal is to create touring roadshows and revive a modern version of the Vauderville circuit, in many cases using restored Vaudeville Theaters.
The humor has been enjoyed by audiences around the world for generations, without the need for violence, rap music, nudity and singers grabbing their crotches. In Europe it is a staple for parents to take younger children every year to cheer, boo and his, and shout at the pantomime clowns in their larger than life costumes.
Although the emphasis is on the Christmas and New year season the first production "King Henry's Feast" has been created for year long dinner theater revues, as well as for conventions and conferences. Other shows in the trans-atlantic pipeline include Hic! the hit one man show on the history and delights of wine by Julian Curry, of "Rumpole of the Bailey" fame and other family shows including leading talent from the British theatre.
