3 Ways Rhymes Can Help Your Child Become a Drawing Expert in Under a Minute

Integrating the use of rhymes to teach your children how to draw not only enhances their artistic abilities; it has a positive impact on their social development. Experts agree that encouraging artistic ability and exposing children to art improves self-esteem, encourages creativity and amplifies self-expression.

“Rhymes are a great tool for teaching children to draw,” says Linda Liu, English adaptor of Drawing Fun, a step-by-step drawing book designed for children that has sold nearly 200,000 in its Chinese version. “Rhythmic tunes are interesting to a child’s ear. Rhymes help you attract, and keep, your child’s attention.” Originally from China, Liu was fascinated with the Chinese version of Drawing Fun, which won China’s National Book Award and was made into a nationally syndicated program that ran for a year. Desiring to share the helpful technique with Western children and parents, Liu adapted the Chinese book into English with the help of her editor. In addition to attracting your child’s attention, Liu says there are many other ways rhymes can facilitate your child’s artistic development. Here she shares three:
