Pier Art Show 12

On May 8 the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) will launch Pier Art Show 12, the annual arts exhibition. Featuring over 300 artists showing over 1000 pieces, plus performances, live music, slide shows, an Artists Speak Series, and much more, the Pier Show is considered a not-to-miss event by collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts. Presented within an historic waterfront warehouse in Red Hook, Brooklyn, guests at the Pier Show will find work by young artists, by the well-known, and the undiscovered – everything, in fact, except the dull.

Attracting member artists from all over the Metropolitan area, BWAC and the Pier Show have emerged as the epicenter of the South Brooklyn arts scene. While over the past twenty years first SoHo, then Chelsea, and now Dumbo and Williamsburg have moved from the cutting edge of art into the mainstream, the BWAC Pier Show remains true to its underground roots , an art oasis on the “fringe.”

“Brooklyn is a mosaic of cultures” says BWAC member Ellie Winberg, “and the BWAC Pier Show is a fantastic reflection of this amazing borough. By being all-inclusive, the Pier Art Show taps into the myriad of tastes and understandings of a public that is curious and hungry for fresh art.”

BWAC is proud of the Pier Show format. “No committee or director decides what pieces end up in the show,” says BWAC President John Strohbeen, “We let the artists choose their own work. If you are a member of BWAC, you can be in the show.”

Enthusiastic collectors anticipate the BWAC Pier Show to purchase art at artist prices, not inflated gallery prices, and pick up outright bargains at the silent auction which closes on June 27. Last year’s show drew over 10,000 visitors, many of whom were there to purchase great works of art, investing today in what will be tomorrow’s sought-after names.

“Brooklyn is the one spot in the universe where every style of art can be found from artists from around the world,” adds Ellie Winberg, “the Pier Show is truly an amazing exhibition.”
