Chatsby Films is Proud to Announce the World Premiere Broadcast of Jane Tuesday Private Kid

Jane Tuesday World Broadcast Premiere - Chatsby Films Westchesters only full service media and production company is excited about this creative collaboration with Sesame Workshop that brings an exciting new live action character to the audiences of the Multi Emmy Winning television show Sesame Street. Writer,Director,Producer Adam Matalon developed the character as a strong female role model.

Jane Tuesday stars Kyla Taub in this ongoing series of shorts about a seven-year old private investigator. Her decidedly wry take on life would make Sam Spade proud. Also starring alongside her is Taylor Matalon as Billy Tuesday her wily and mischievous brother. Jane Tuesday solves the everyday mysteries that surround children and investigates some most perplexing riddles -- but why is her brother always near the scene of the mystery?

After a five-year association with Sesame Street as a member of the Directors Guild unit Adam Matalon pitched his concept for Jane Tuesday to Carol Lynne Parente senior producer of the show. “I wanted to create a really intelligent and edgy female role model who could not only have some fun but inform. I have two small kids of my own and I see the thought progressions developing all the time. It only takes being a parent for a couple of minutes to realize that kids are really smart and we often take for granted and underestimate their knowledge and their powers of evaluation and deduction. That’s where the germ of the idea came from. I wanted to create a female Sam Spade in the body of a seven year old! I found Kyla Taub who is an extraordinary young actress. She completely enveloped herself in the role practicing the speech patterns for at least two weeks before we actually shot the pieces.”

Also on board the production team was Emmy Nominated Director of Photography Kevin Burke who also co-produced, Jim Meek a veteran of children’s television programming handled production sound. Music and sound effects by Emmy Winning Mike Renzi and Dick Maitland respectively, both have been providing the sound tracks for our children’s lives for many years.

Kevin had some substantial limitations with the budget and the films were shot on location and not in a studio. “Although we were shooting in color, we took what I coined a “noir-ish approach and decided that we would de-saturate the colors in post-production. We controlled the lighting as much as possible and used slashes of light to accent her backgrounds. We got some great support from Bob Zahn at BVR who not only provided the gear but had his awesome engineers create some settings in the Sony DSR500 that would best suit our needs.”
Matalon added, “It was very much a learning experience this time around as we were not only shooting pilot episodes but we were learning not only about what works both for the character of Jane, but also about the very definite boundaries of simplicity and clarity that arise when creating programming for children. We are really excited about the next go round and are already discussing some great new ideas for Jane.”
