February 29th the Atlantic Contemporary Ballet Theatre a New Jersey ballet company will be in West Palm Beach auditioning dancers and giving out scholarships for the ACBT International Performing Arts Camp summer intensive program. The Atlantic Contemporary Ballet Theatre is under the direction of International Ballet Star, Phyllis Papa. Miss Papa was with the American Ballet Theatre, the first American ever to join the Royal Danish Ballet and is the 1998 recipient of the Brazilian Gold Medal of Honor.
The Acbt offers college credit for dance in the camp from the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey to high school and above students who qualify.
The summer intensive program is open to the serious student in dance. The camp is located in Southern New Jersey on 7.2 areas in the woods with dorms in a beautiful Victorian house. The swimming pool is a 25 meter pool for after class relaxation and pool barre.
Students enjoy six hours of dance each day with a professional staff that cares about each student’s progress and loves to teach. There is opportunity for the campers to perform weekly at Kennedy Plaza in Atlantic City who stay 4 or 8 weeks. The camp has a two week session for campers without an opportunity to perform.
Many former campers are now enjoying professional careers in ballet companies all over the world. All meals at the camp are homemade and meet high nutrition standards by Acbt professional chefs. Field trips include an evening performance at the American Ballet Theatre and a Broadway show. Weekend trips include the beach and amusements. Each camper is given a written evaluation at the end of the camp to take home with them.
Miss Papa will be auditioning any student 11 to 26 who is at the intermediate, advanced or professional levels. The audition will be in the form of a ballet class. Girls should bring pointe shoes. Male and female dancers should not wear any leg warmers for this class.
Any student in dance wishing to improve at a high caliber this summer should audition.
