Newest Performance of “History in the Faking” Opens in LA on June 25, 2004!
What if... a pair of Hollywood producers had shown up at Noah's Ark, a modern gossip columnist had scooped the romantic merry-go-round of Henry VIII, a jaded restaurant owner had witnessed the events of The Last Supper? These are just some of the clever and often hilarious scenarios imagined by one of Los Angeles's most talented comedy troupes, in a series of sketch comedy shows called "History in the Faking." The newest production of "History in the Faking" takes place Friday, June 25, at the Improv Olympic (6366 Hollywood Blvd.) at 11 p.m.
With a brand-new staging produced by Colleen O'Hare and directed by Brendan O'Meara, "History in the Faking" is history from the sidelines -- an assortment of smart, funny sketches that imagine what history might have looked like in the eyes of random bystanders. Each month, this talented group of actors distorts a whole new series of great moments in history -- both historical events and pop culture phenomena (like the guy who was there the day yoga became cool.)
The newest production of "History in the Faking" stars Tony Award Winner Daisy Eagan, Patrick Cavanaugh of FOX network’s "Meet the Marks," and Brian Frates, seen on HBO’s "Sketchpad 2," along with Ryan Bailey, April Brown, Meryl Chambers, Dennis Gubbins, Suzy Henschel, Colleen O’Hare, and Brendan O’Meara. The troupe’s roster also includes Kelly Stables (from the soon-to-be released The Ring 2 and The Princess Diaries II), Vivian Bang (of the Obie Award-winning production "Benton Kozo"), as well as Tommy Burkhardt, Adam DeVine, and Ian Gary.
O’Hare, meanwhile, not only produces the series of shows, but also directed the second installment, and appears as a player in the productions. "People seem to love the show because it’s accessible to everyone, with equal parts highbrow humor and physical comedy -- it’s completely original, very funny, and staged by a phenomenally talented cast." She adds, "There’s one thing that’s always guaranteed: You’ll never see history the same way again."

Already an LA mainstay after only two performances (June 25 marks the show's third appearance), "History in the Faking" is a rich variety of hysterical, all-new material presented on a monthly basis. One show may include events from the Paleolithic period to the 21st century, so the cast creates uniformity with minimalist staging, typically dressing in all black, and using only a few simple props per sketch to indicate the historical era. Each brand-new performance is written as a collaborative effort, with artists writing their own sketches and polishing them as a group. The show's monthly one-night performances consistently sell out, so advance purchase is advised.
Tony Award winner Daisy Eagan was most recently seen in the film version of Tony 'n' Tina’s Wedding, which premiered recently at the Tribeca Film Festival, as well as in the Actor’s Fund All-Star reading of Sunset Boulevard at the Pantages Theater. She also appeared on television last year as a regular on Bravo’s acclaimed reality series "The It Factor" (New York).
