The announcement told me this was going to be different. A sinister Ska-band from a town south of Rotterdam and a dj playing 78's. But what was that weird word at the bottom of the flyer? The receptionist at the hostal translated it for me: Maja fietsclub, a made-up slang-version of the words Baja-Beachclub, the local jock-hangout. The venue where the gig was held looked cosy at first. It was about nine fiteen, just when I took the first sip of my delicious dutch beer, when I heard it: a sound that I never heard before. I mean you could obviously tell that they hadn't been gigging for a while, but the way they played together, and their leadsinger: it just sounded so amazing altogether! And this was just the soundcheck! They didn't even start yet! I jumped up a took manoeuvred my way through the crowd. The place was jam-packed. Just when I got hold of a spot near the stage the sound of a semi-acoustic guitar filled the room. At first this sounded folk-like, but then the rhythm-section gave the tune a reggae-
