Mauricio Saravia will be presenting a multimedia event "Métaphysique" at The Funky Buddha (776 Lincoln Street, Denver, CO 80209) on Tuesday, March 16th, 2004. The show will be hosted by award-winning NYC illustrator and artist Michelle Barnes and will feature new acrylic paintings, techno-house club music that he composed and wrote the lyrics and selected poems from "The Book of Whispers". Saravia combines surreal and geometric metaphysical images that are done in acrylic painting over canvas. "I get into a creative mood that is connected from the paintings, to the poems for they both have an underlying message. The paintings that I am doing now are also connected with the last poems that I wrote, and so is the music. I am inspired by the universe, the mind, and the soul. I love to read about metaphysics, philosophy and matters that concern the world that lives deep within us."

At the age of 6 (1976), he was already traveling between Uruguay, Montevideo, Massachusetts, Springfield and Boston, being a patient of the Shriner’s Hospital until he was 19 (1989). Since then, he has been an avid traveler and has lived in New York City, New Jersey, San Francisco, Monterey, Los Angeles, Philadelphia among other cities. He has also traveled to Durango, Cortez, Amherst, Maine, Washington, North Carolina, Nashville, Miami, San Diego and Nevada. Saravia has lived in several cities in South America: Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Punta del Este. He has also visited cities such as Bahia in Brazil and Santiago de Chile.

As an artist, Saravia did his first show in 1990. Since then, he has done several art shows in Montevideo, Atlántida and Punta del Este. He was sponsored by the U.S. British Embassy, by the British Ambassador Donald Lamont, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, the former President of Uruguay, Dr. Luis Alberto Lacalle (who was also a guest to his 1993 art show), Uruguayan celebrity Dr. Luis De María, by The Coca-Cola Company and by Colbert Champagne. He has been featured in numerous television programs such as: "A Day in the Life of Mauricio Saravia" which was hosted by international journalist Ignacio Suarez, who wrote a poem about him "To Mauricio". He has also been interviewed and featured in radio and newspaper articles in South America and has received kind comments from former President Dr. Julio María Sanguinetti and Dr. Rodolfo Taliche.

As a poet, Saravia has published two books of poetry: "The Odd Lot" in 1991 and "Esencia" in 1998. His first book "The Odd Lot" received a kind welcome from the press and was introduced by the U.S. Embassy in the International Book Fair in 1991 and presented by the Anglo-Cultural Institute in the following year. The poems were taught to the Anglo's College Students in English and poetry appreciation classes. Saravia was one of the first poetry writers to embrace e-books and digital technology in South America: "The Odd Lot" was also made into a computer program in 1991 and sold in bookstores and computer software stores. Saravia did a small reading of his poetry at the "Fashion Café" in 1998, bringing together surreal poetry and high-fashion and he has also done a reading for the Mayor in a cultural event in Orange, New Jersey City Hall in 1998.

Saravia has just finished his 3rd. book of poetry which deals with surreal, sensual and metaphysical themes. He is also been working on an upcoming house music CD that uses segments of his last poems juxtaposed against electronic beats.

In 1997 he worked with Uruguayan and Canadian actress Patricia Ribeiro and started a television program in Channel 21 "Atmosfera (Atmosphere)". The program interviewed local celebrities. In 2001, Saravia started an online magazine “Artist Interviews” (www.artistinterviews.com ), which is in the process of going to print. He has interviewed celebrities such as Michael Whelan, Boris Vallejo, Luis Royo, Kinuko Y. Craft, as well as celebrities Victoria Silvstedt, Cindy Margolis, Nikki Ziering, Amanda Swisten and Angelica Bridges, among many other personalities.
