Recognizing his responsibility to his community, Benjamin Moody (BE’ N ORIGINAL), publisher and editor in chief of online media outlet Urban Magazine, is calling for the immediate replacement of Justin Timberlake as co-host of ABC’s "Motown 45" Special.
“I feel that when Janet Jackson was basically ostracized from the Grammy’s for her role in the Super Bowl Halftime fiasco, Justin Timberlake revealed his true colors as he refused to accept any responsibility for his role in the event. As an African American member of the media, it is paramount that condemnation for the inappropriate event be distributed equally. As Justin surely anticipated his share of benefit if the publicity stunt had been well received, he should have accepted the resulting backlash instead of shifting the blame” says the 33 year old Poughkeepsie resident.
Though it has been well documented, most mainstream media outlets have seemingly overlooked or downplayed Timberlake’s participation to the point where coverage appears to have been for the most part racially cleansed.
“What I find disappointing about the entire situation is that the fact Timberlake is the one who actually revealed the breast as he tore Jackson’s garment, undisputable proof of his active participation. We need to send a message to the entertainment industry that we are awake to this form of subtle discrimination.”
Justin’s career has greatly benefited from the support of African American consumers and we will not tolerate for one of our own to be left to bear this shameful burden alone. It is time that Black consumers revoked his pass.
